A previous blog post about historic photos documenting the construction and destruction related to the 2 Freeway generated a comment from a resident who wishes the freeway builders had not stopped at Glendale Boulevard:

“I remember when I first moved to LA and used the 2,” said Matt. “I was so confused as to why it ended so abruptly and why I [needed] to take local streets just to connect to where I was going. This was before I moved to Echo Park, but even now that I am an area resident, I think the project is a good idea. It’ll bring with it a bunch of annoying construction, but I think it serves the community well to displace the commuters who are just passing through.”

It’s Sunday afternoon and Sara Leon and her friends and family are practicing quinceaňera dance moves on an oil-stained parking lot off Echo Park Avenue. The kids practice under the direction of Evelin Munoz, who for $700 provides seven dance classes tailored for quinceaňeras. The name of her company is Flash Dance. This is the fifth class for Sara and company before her quinceaňera on Nov 22. Looking good.
