Legendary photographer William Claxton, who died earlier this month, captured images of many of the great figures of American jazz, including saxophonist Art Pepper, a one time Echo Park resident. Claxton took this well known image of Pepper climbing a steep street near his home. The street is often identified as Fargo Street. But it looks more like Baxter Street looking east from Alvarado.
