If you drive down Valley Boulevard in El Sereno, consider yourself lucky if you’ve never had to stop at Alhambra Road to wait for a passing train. The crossing arms come down to block traffic as many as 32 times a day, leaving motorists to wait 30 minutes or more in some cases, said Rick Coca, spokesman for councilman Jose Huizar. “It’s a nightmare for residents, commuters and fire and police,” he said.
But starting next year those traffic tie ups will become a thing of the past when a new bridge will permit motorists to travel above the train tracks. Huizar was able to find $9 million to complete the long delayed $54 million project.
How long have El Sereno residents been waiting for this project to be completed ? About 30 years. Apparently waiting 30 minutes for the train at Valley Boulevard has given El Sereno residents plenty of patience.
