Maybe Councilman Huizar should follow his own advice next time

Councilman Jose Huizar expressed disappointment Wednesday after the city lost a legal battle over a proposed El Sereno housing development in his district. The city’s own attorneys had advised against filing the lawsuit, and, now, the developer is threatening to recover “substantial” financial damages, according to the LA Times.

Maybe all this could have been avoided if Huizar and the council had heeded a separate statement he issued on the same day of the court ruling over controlling legal expenses:

“In these tough economic times . . . we simply cannot afford to keep throwing money at these unnecessary and extremely costly lawsuits.”
