Power was knocked out temporarily to as many as 900 homes and businesses in Silver Lake this afternoon after a vehicle hit a pole, damaging electrical lines, according to the Department of Water & Power. Spokeswoman Kim Hughes said power had been restored to about two-third of those customers by about 4:30 p.m. and crews were working to resume service to the remaining locations. The Silver Lake power outage was not related to an underground electrical explosion in downtown earlier in the day, she said.
Hughes did not not know the exact location of the accident in Silver Lake or what portions of the neighborhood were hit by the outage.* But one resident of Silver Ridge Avenue who contacted The Eastsider said they heard an explosion before power went out on the street.
* Update: Readers are reporting the accident was near Glendale Blvd. and Fletcher. LA Now reports powered was knocked out at the Silver Lake Gelsons.
