Police were looking to see if the separate incidents late this afternoon were connected, according to Julie Wong, spokeswoman for Echo Park Councilman Eric Garcetti. A black pick-up truck was seen leaving the scene of shootings in the two neighborhoods.
One of the Echo Park victims shot on Baxter Street just west of Echo Park Avenue at about 5 p.m. was pronounced dead at a hospital, Wong said. A second man shot around the corner on Echo Park Avenue was reported in stable condition. Residents reported seeing shots being fired into homes on Baxter Street from a passing vehicle.
The shooting on Baxter street near an Echo Park gang stronghold took place only a few yards from where 15-year-old Timothy Lezay was killed in July 2007 in a nearby alley.
About 30 minutes after today’s violence in Echo Park another man was left dead following a shooting on Toland Way in Glassell Park, Wong said.
A total of four people have been killed in separate Eastside shootings since Friday. Two men were killed on Friday night and early Saturday morning in Boyle Heights, reports KCBS.
