News that Los Angeles City College won’t be opening and operating a satellite campus at the former Van de Kamps bakery disappointed many Glassell Park and Atwater Village residents. But a college district executive, trying to put a positive spin on the news during a Tuesday night meeting, promised that the fence surrounding what is currently called the Northeast Campus will be decorated with cupcakes, cookies and sheaves of wheat in honor of the bakery. That wasn’t much consolation for residents Laura Gutierrez and Netty Carr but it did inspire them to come up with a new name for the property: the Cupcake Community Campus.
“Netty and I are planning on getting cupcake tattoos,” Guttierez said.
