The first week of December was relatively quiet on the crime front. But there was still plenty of stolen autos reported in El Sereno and Highland Park and violent robberies in Boyle Heights (Highland Park, too). One section of Glassell Park got hit with four burglaries. Click on the link below for a break down of some of the crimes committed during Nov. 30 – Dec. 6 as found on the LAPD crime map and EveryBlock.com:
Echo Park & Silver Lake (90026)
A violent robbery near Benton Way and Bellevue Street in Silver Lake and about a half-dozen vehicle break-ins in Echo Park were among the crimes reported.
Lincoln Heights & Montecito Heights (90031)
Two violent robberies were reported near Broadway and Griffin in Lincoln Heights, where three burglaries also took place. Two thefts from vehicles were reported in Montecito Heights.
El Sereno & Monterey Hills (90032)
Ten stolen vehicles and four burglaries were reported stolen across the area. Also, there were two aggravated assaults on Amethyst Street.
Boyle Heights (90033)
Three violent robberies and two personal thefts were reported on or along Cesar Chavez Street. There was also quite a bit of auto-related crime, with reports of 10 stolen vehicles and 10 more break-ins.
Atwater Village & Silver Lake (90039)
Northeast Silver Lake was the scene of five car break-ins; another four break-ins were reported in Atwater between Glendale and Fletcher. There was a report of an aggravated assault and stolen vehicle near Blake and Denby in Elysian Valley.

Five violent robberies and 10 grand theft auto were reported across the area.
Cypress Park, Glassell Park & Mt. Washington (90065)
Four burglaries were reported in Glassell Park north of the 2 Freeway. Two thefts from vehicles were reported in Mt. Washington.
This weekly report is based on the LAPD’s online crime maps and police department reports filtered by ZIP code through EveryBlock.com. There are sometimes discrepancies between the LAPD and EveryBlock statistics at the time when Eastside Crime Watch is compiled. Additional crimes might be added to the reports following the publication of this post.

Looks like a done deal: A last-minute plan to change the southern tip of the 2 Freeway at Glendale Boulevard is likely to get the blessing of the Metropolitan Transit Authority this morning despite the opposition of some Echo Park residents. After holding public meetings with residents for nearly a decade over the $12 million project, the MTA staff abruptly recommended what it calls a hybrid proposal a few weeks ago that a group of Echo Park residents say provides far less public open space and public amenities than other longstanding alternatives. The MTA board will take up the hybrid this morning as part of its consent calendar, which usually includes items that are quick to win board approval. Julie Wong, spokeswoman with Councilman Eric Garcetti, said the councilman would not support an alternative that fails to improve safety, create more parkland and win community support.

Does the LAPD Police Academy need to sober up? The bar on the grounds of the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park is the site of a regular and lively party called Payday Wednesday. Officer Kenneth Aragon had been drinking at Payday Wednesday last week shortly before he was involved in a traffic accident in Atwater that left the 47-year-old man, a father of five, dead. The LAPD is now looking whether he was served too many drinks at academy bar or somewhere else, reports the LA Times.
The scene at the bar, which is operated by the Los Angeles Revolver and Athletic Club, and Payday Wednesday is much more low key than it used to be, according to the Times:

A late night posting on the Echo Elysian Forum Tuesday said that residents who called to complain about an upcoming commercial shoot in Elysian Park would get $100 to compensate them for any disruption. It turns out the posting was not true, said location manager Gill Evans for Park Productions, which proposed shutting down a section of Stadium Way to shoot a simulated traffic jam with about 30 cars. So, how many people called in take them up on the fake, $100 offer? Just one. “I got one call from [from an elderly man] asking ‘How do I get my money?’” Evans said. “It’s a complete hoax.”
In response to community complaints, Evans said his production company now wants to close down four of the six lanes near Dodger Stadium to film a commercial for a German cell phone company. Evans said they needed recreate an L.A. traffic jam because the scene calls for a man to walk out of a car while stopped in traffic. “If there was a cheaper and eaiser way to do it, they would have done it”
