Detour Ahead: Silver Lake residents will get the details next week about the temporary closure of West Silver Lake Drive south of Rowena Avenue for a new water line. Only a short stretch of W. Silver Lake Drive will be closed but it's an important link for residents who live north of the Silver Lake and Ivanhoe reservoirs. "It will be a major impact to the community" and parents driving to and from Ivanhoe Elementary school, said Mary Rodriguez, a field deputy for Council District 4.

The work is scheduled to begin in January and last for an "extended period of time," said Rodriguez . Silver Lake Drive will remain open to local traffic but it is not clear yet how local residents will be identified. Details about the water project and traffic will be discussed at a community meeting scheduled for December 9 at Ivanhoe school.

This is going to be a real nightmare. Necessary, i guess, but a nightmare nonetheless. Bummer.
