8 million reasons to find a new friend in Highland Park

If you know a Highland Park man who attends Pasadena City College and works part time in an auto supply store, it might benefit you to be extra nice to him. That’s because that Highland Park resident – who wants to remain anonymous – was the winner of the last Saturday’s $8 million lottery jackpot. The mystery winner didn’t find out he owned the winning ticket until Tuesday because, according to a California Lottery press release, he said “I was still partying from New Year’s.”

Also celebrating this week was the seller of the winning lottery ticket, Highland Park’s Tropicana Market, which will receive about $40,000 before taxes. The owner told EGP News that the windfall will pay off some of her business credit card debt she has relied on to make ends meet.

As for the jackpot winner, he’s quitting that part time job and plans to become a full-time student, according to the lottery agency. “In addition, he’d like to help others, as well as “travel to the corners of the world.”
