DWP crews repairing Echo Park water main break

DWP workers on the scene of an early morning water main break near Scott and Portia avenues in Echo Park said water service is being restored to nearby homes. A four-unit apartment next to the break suffered some minor flooding and water service was interrupted to residents on several nearby streets, including Portia as well as Sutherland and Quintero streets, according to several residents. Jaime Stathas said his mother, whose apartment complex is located next to the break, discovered water burbling out of the ground at about 3:45 AM.

Stathas said the water, some of which flowed into the bottom units of the adjacent apartments, flowed for several hours before crews shut the line. Another Echo Park resident who called DWP said service was expected to be restored at about 2:30 PM but a worker on the scene said water had already begun flowing through the repaired water line. The Eastsider has contacted DWP to get more details about the break.
