Boyle Heights angel called in to save the city’s arts & culture budget

Boyle Heights artist and teacher Lilia Ramirez made one of the more dramatic pitches at City Hall on Wednesday to defend the Department of Cultural Affairs budget from deep cuts during a lengthy City Council meeting. But maybe not even angelic powers can save the city’s finances. Today, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa ordered 1,000 jobs to be eliminated.
