Suspected Silver Lake murder victim is now a robbery suspect

So, how did the body of a dead man end up in the middle of Silver Lake street near Sunset Junction? The deceased – described as a male Latino in his 30s or 40s – was initially believed to be a victim of a possible murder. Some early reports said he had suffered a gunshot to the wound to the head. Now, LAPD Northeast Division Capt. William Murphy, in his monthly online newsletter, has a new take on the incident, saying the victim was most likely a suspect in a robbery that ended in his own death:

“While the investigation is still ongoing, it appears
that the dead man (now a suspect) actually tried to rob a tow truck driver and was inadvertently run over by him while he attempted to flee the crime!”

In other crime news …. while crime is down so far this year, burglaries in the Northeast Division are up 50% compared to same period last year, reports Murphy. Burglars and robbers have also struck numerous businesses from Echo Park to Eagle Rock during the period. Also, in Glassell Park, LAPD is working with anti-gang workers to deal with juveniles hanging out late at night on Drew Street, the former Avenues gang stronghold.
