• Detour ahead for Silver Lake drivers & bus riders

    Friday, March 12, 2010

After being postponed several times, a key section of West Silver Lake Drive south of Rowena Avenue will be shut down for about five months starting Monday for a water line construction project. Only about two blocks will be closed off but that closure will cut off a route used by many reservoir area residents to reach Ivanhoe Elementary School, the stores along Rowena and Hyperion and the freeways beyond (limited street access will be available for some nearby residents). The road closure will also disrupt bus service in the area, forcing the MTA to reroute its 201 Line from West Silver Lake Drive to Silver Lake Boulevard on the east side of the reservoir. Once work is completed on West Silver Lake Drive, the DWP water line project is expected to require more road work on portions of Rowena, Riverside and Fletcher drive through the end of 2011.
