The Texas woman who drove out to California to pick up a 1962 Volkswagen Beetle only to see it stolen off a Highland Park street last month finally received photos of what’s left of her beloved “Dream Bug.” It’s not a pretty sight as you can see from the photo above. Still, the owner, a woman named Rachel who serves in the Army at Fort Hood, wants the shell of the VW (pictured at right before it was stolen) shipped to Texas from a Los Angeles salvage yard, she said in an email:
“We will find out today what they will give us for the loss and get us in contact with the salvage yard that has her right now so that we can get her shipped back to Texas. The mechanic that has his shop right by our apartment says he will let us keep her there until she is all pieced back together and is awaiting her arrival, as am I.”
