Backpacks and burglars have Elysian Heights residents worried

An Elysian Heights home on Altivo Way near Echo Park Avenue was burglarized Friday afternoon, with computers, iPhones and other items being stolen, report neighbors familiar with the incident. The burglary comes after several residents have reported seeing two young men with backpacks wandering the streets of Elysian Heights in recent days – including Friday morning – asking for directions to Dodger Stadium. One woman was surprised to find the pair standing outside a sliding window off her patio Wednesday morning:

“I thought that our patio was a very odd place to be looking
for Dodger Stadium. The patio is set above the street and the doors to the house are not visible from the street … In closing I will note that the boys looked nice. If you saw them walking down your street, you wouldn’t have the slightest concern about them. I did report this to the LAPD, but I didn’t really give them much to work with.”

It’s not certain if the two young men are suspects but the woman and her neighbors are keeping an eye out. Earlier this week, the LAPD warned Silver Lake residents that juvenile suspects on bikes and carrying backpacks were spotted near the scene of some recent burglaries.

I live near Baxter and Echo Park Ave and my house was burglarized Sat. night on June 13…we were out of town overnight. They took a lap top, 2 guitars, an amp, camera lens, all my CD’s, and 2 jewelry boxes.
They came in from back door and were obviously not bothered by my 2 dogs.
