Email backfires on Councilman Huizar’s reelection campaign

A consultant for Councilman Jose Huizar was fired on Sunday after he proclaimed that the councilman’s reelection campaign was poised to put a “political bullet” in the forehead of rival Rudy Martinez, according to the L.A. Now.  Consultant Michael Trujillo described the wording in a memo sent to supporters as “tongue-in-cheek.” But another campaign consultant for Huizar said the remarks, made one month after the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, were “inappropriate.”  In addition to the “political bullet” remark, Trujillo’s email contained some other graphic imagery, according to a copy obtained by the Times:

“I treated him like I was a cat playing with a trapped mouse,” wrote Trujillo. “Well, now he is going to be the dead rat he really is….We are about to put a political bullet in between Rudy Martinez’s forehead and make him pee in his pants too.”

The election for the 14th Council District, which stretches from Eagle Rock and Mt. Washington to Boyle Heights and El Sereno, will be held on March 8.

  1. I don not live in that District, so I should probably keep my thoughts on this race to myself but I can’t help myself. I am not a big fan of Huizar. But Rudy Martinez? Seriously? A man who made his money as a house flipper? Is that what Boyle Heights and Northeast Los Angeles needs? I understand the disappointment that many feel with Huizar but what, on earth, gives them any hope that Martinez would be any better? Indeed, all I have heard about Martinez (and I have also met him) make me believe that he will only be worse.

Rudy Martinez gives the term “unctuous” a new depth of meaning. Oily and slimy politician truly do not suffice for him. I do not understand just what the LA Times was thinking in endorsing him — and their written endorsement left a lot to be desired. I am left to believe that Huizar really pissed off the LA Times as some point, … I would be on that.

  2. Carlos the Patriot

I support Councilmen Huizar for CD14. The reason why I am supporting Councilmen Huizar are for the “self cleaning restrooms” installed DOWN in SKID ROW. This shows me that he is trying to take care of the basic needs of the poor, homeless, AND depress of SKID ROW. Two Thumbs Up for Councilmen Huizar.

Rudy Martinez had not mentioned anything about the poor, homeless or depress of SKID ROW.

  3. There is someone to choose from. He will be a write-in canidate. His name is Randy Carrillo. He facilitates an organization that helps promote working at the grassroots level on community issues. More to come as soon as it is official. He has plans that specifically address what he sees as issues in CD14.

  4. Having to choose from two con’s make people not want to VOTE whats the point. They all lie cheat and steal once in office. We have a City council that has shown us so. It’s sad not to believe in the process anymore.
