Maria the goose needs a new name

Maria the goose, the famous fowl of Echo Park Lake, turns out to be a male, workers at the Los Angeles Zoo have determined.  The correct sex of the goose – ah, make that gander – was found out during an examination at the zoo, where  the bird  was taken last Friday to protect it from possible mischief.  Mitch O’Farrell, an official with Councilman Eric Garcetti’s office, announced the news of Maria’s sex change tonight during a meeting of the Echo Park Improvement Assn:

“Maria is a Mario,” said O”Farrell, who helped arrange for Maria’s stay at the zoo. “We don’t have a goose. We have a gander.”

It’s not known who named the bird Maria. However,  members of the band OK Go, which featured Maria in a popular video last year, apparently had a better handle on the bird’s gender. They nicknamed the gander “Orange Bill.”

Mario, always wanting to bond with his fellow bros (Dominic, OK GO, etc), and they thought he was flirting!!!!!

  2. maybe Maria is pre-opp transgender and would like to be know as her female name.

  3. I feel sorry for Maria. The queen/king of Echo Park Lake. I hope he can return!

  4. I humbly submit that we’ve been calling “her” Geoffrey for years now. Can you honestly say he doesn’t look like a Geoffrey?

  5. If it isn’t broken, why fix it?

  6. It’s Maria the Goose. A transsexual Goose fits right in with Echo Park.
