  • One man killed in Silver Lake shooting *

    Monday, April 18, 2011

A man who was riding a bike was struck by a car and then shot and killed Sunday night on the western edge of Silver Lake  in what police believe is a gang-related shooting.  After being knocked to the ground near  Hoover Street and Del Mar Avenue, the bike rider was shot in the upper torso; he was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital, said LAPD spokeswoman Rosario Herrera.

Residents who live nearby said the shooting took place at about 9:30 p.m., prompting police to shut down streets for several hours. One person said police were knocking on doors and asking residents for information about the shooting.

“Three shots were fired and the police staked out and blocked our street for most all of the night,” said a resident. “I am not sure if the male victim died but he was rushed to the hospital last night. Not a usual thing in my neighborhood … overall we are a safe, friendly block.”

Is this the same reason some streets a little further south were blocked off? I live on Burns, and the office told me someone was apparently robbed on Lockwood at gunpoint. Separate incident or misinformed officer?
