Echo Park hosts a pair of events this weekend that explores the work and impact generated by an arts movement that emerged in New York during the 1970s and 1980s. On Saturday night, Subliminal Projects hosts an opening reception for “Art, Access & Decay: New York 1975-1985,” a group show reflective of the work that was exhibited on streets, storefronts as well as public access TV. On Sunday, the Echo Park Film Center follows up by screening some of those artist-produced shows created for cable television.
In other events, “Some Sweet Day” opens at the Knightsbridge Theartre in Elysian Valley tonight and Lincoln Park is the setting of the Plaza de la Raza Arts Festival on Saturday night. There will also be a rain barrel distribution and class in Silver Lake and an art class for kids and families in Highland Park. There will also be fundraisers to support Japanese disaster relief, maintain awareness of a Soviet nuclear disaster and a menudo breakfast to benefit the Cypress Park Veterans memorial. Take a look at this week’s Eastside Mix music picks and then go to Save the Date for more events.
