Silver Lake cool rolls into Cypress Park:  It was about six years ago that artist and skater Alex Rodriguez opened up a Silver Lake skateboarding and clothing store called Maintain amid a stretch of repair shops on Sunset Boulevard.  As interest in skating waned among his Silver Lake customers, Rodriguez decided to close the store and focus on a second outlet he opened about six months ago closer to his home in Cypress Park. There is not a yoga studio or waxing salon in sight from the corner of Figueroa Street and Avenue 28, where Rodriquez painted a storefront black and filled the interior with skateboards, street apparel, shoes as well as markers and high-end spray paint for graffiti artists. “I see the possibilities,” said Rodriguez of his stretch of Figueroa across the street from Footsies bar. But Cypress Park is not Silver Lake, and Rodriguez’ prices and merchandise reflect that. His merchandise includes lower-priced parts to appeal to skaters on a budget, with complete blank boards starting at $65 and wheel sets prices ranging from $12 to $40. Apparel ranges from $40 to $80, with printed t-shirts selling for $20. But check out the $10 sale rack.   Maintain, 2643 Figueroa, Cypress Park

Maintain is at Ave 28 and Fig, not Ave 43. It’s cool to see all the young skaters hanging outside of it!

” some blank skate board decks starting at $65 ”

That couldn’t be right. The average price for a blank deck is in the $30 range, a brand name “team” deck is in the $40-50 range, and a brand name pro-model deck is usually in the $50-60 range.

Maybe it’s $65 for a complete which is comprised of a blank deck, blank wheels, and budget trucks. But I’m just speculating.
