Suspect arrested in fatal Historic Filipinotown beating

A woman was arrested in Wednesday’s fatal beating of a 70-year-old homeless man whose body was found amid his blankets next to a building in Historic Filipinotown. Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested 44-year-old Norma Rios of Los Angeles, said Lt. Wes Buhrmester with the Rampart Division.  Rios was booked for murder and is being held on $1 million bail.  Police are still searching for three, young male suspects connected with the beating, which was related to an earlier incident between Rios and the victim.  Buhrmester, in a comment to Wednesday’s story,  said detectives made the arrest in part with information provided by other homeless residents:

An interesting aspect of the homeless community is that, like any community, many of them know each other. That was the case here. Several people, homeless and otherwise, approached the officers at the scene, offering information they felt would be helpful. They were acquaintances with the victim.

The name of the victim will not been released  until family members have been notified of his death.

  1. Positive news. Yeah! Now about those other three…let’s hope they fall like dominoes.

  2. Please do note the name of the victim, once it is released. Homeless people deserve to be mourned as well.
