"Chase Burning"/Courtesy Alex Schaefer
The ebay auction for artist Alex Schaefer’s “Chase Burning” painting ended this afternoon with the highest bid coming in at $25,200. The Eagle Rock artist put the painting up for auction after he received widespread publicity after his plein air paintings of burning bank branches attracted the attention of police. Now let’s see where Schaefer will deposit that auction money if the winning ebay bidder follows through.
* Update: Schaefer, whose paintings serves as his artistic representation of the nation’s banking crises, posted the following on his blog after the auction’s close:
I‘m still in a state of shock but slowly coming to! Thank you world for all your love! I can’t tell you how excited I am for all this and for artistic recognition but also for the ability of a simple painting to get so many people talking about such important issues! I’m humbled.
Wow – If I wanted to buy that painting, I’d have to … take a second mortgage out on my house!
If…
I bet it won’t be a bank
Wow is right. What a blessing for him! Wonder what his highest selling price for a painting was until now. Happy for you, Alex.
Congrats! That’s a lot of cash to stuff under your mattress.
Get the money in gold. It and the painting will be worth more next week as our dollar continues to decline.
