A Visit to Villainy: What does an “old timey” general store catering to the “industrious urbanite” sell? The owners of Echo Park’s Villainy General Store invites the public to find out during a grand opening celebration, complete with food and live music, on Saturday, Oct. 15. Merchandise ranges from sturdy cast iron skillets and pancake mix to colorful Mexican blankets and antiques.
Mondays at Mohawk Bend: Echo Park’s Mohawk Bend is expanding its schedule only a few weeks after it opened. Beginning Oct. 17, the Sunset Boulevard restaurant and bar will open on Mondays from 5 p.m to 11:30 p.m. The restaurant will open at noon on weekends beginning Oct. 22. In addition to more hours, Mohawk has also launched Flight Time – an opportunity to sample four, California-made beers for $9 between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
La Abeja Now Buzzing at Dinner: La Abeja, Cypress Park’s longtime Mexican restaurant, has long been known for hearty breakfast favorites like huevos rancheros and, on weekends, menudo. Starting this week, however, the Figueroa Street restaurant will make a play for the dinner crowd by extending its hours into the early evening for the first time in about 30 years, said Rogelio Fonseca, whose parents opened La Abeja in 1969. The restaurant will now be open until 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. New menu items will be added soon.
Low-Profile Fashion Outpost: Fashion designer Andrea Spratt has created a cozy and light-filled home for her Glassell Park studio and shop called Kucoon, reports Racked L.A. It’s not much to look at from the street, with a small sign hanging above a black metal security door. But the fashions inside impressed Racked L.A., which described Spratt’s collection as “very Rick Owens meets Kitson with its soft jerseys and knits in languid and relaxed shapes.”
Almost Open: The grand opening of Maximiliano, the new Highland Park Italian restaurant, has been delayed until next week so the owners can comply with some minor health department requirements, reports Patch. The York Boulevard restaurant by Andre Guerero, who owns Oinkster in Eagle Rock, is now scheduled to open Wednesday, Oct. 12.

I love La Abeja and really look forward to early evening dining. Thanks!
I just saw this post after eating at La Abeja for the first time today. My burrito and husband’s tacos were delicious, prices were ridiculously low, but service was slow, next time I will call my order in. I’ll be back.
