Eastside Shopper & Diner Report

  • There’s a new salsa in town and its called Chiltepil. That’s the name of the dry salsa made from a mix of chiles de arbol, sesame  and pumpkin seeds now being served at Antojitos Carmen in Boyle Heights, says Daily Dish. If you can take the heat, it’s sold in small containers for $5.
  • Gingergrass in Silver Lake has transformed a narrow space next the main dining room into the Bai Hoi Lounge.  Patrons can take a seat in the lounge, where snacks and beer are served, as they wait for a table at the Vietnamese restaurant, according to Squid Ink.  Early next year, the Bai Hoi Lounge will also be open during the day when it will serve as a deli, bakery and cafe.
  • What is Pizza Palooza?  That is what Echo Park’s Mohawk Bend is calling a new Monday night special that allows customers to eat as much pizza as they want for $15 ( does not including drinks/tax/tip).   Bring your appetite and $15 after 5 p.m.
  • The calendars made by Krank Press, a Silver Lake letterpress company, have caught the attention of design-conscious gardeners, with a line of seasonal garden calendars that feature prints pressed from wood and linoleum engravings.  More details on the $20 calendars in Daily Dish.

  1. BTW… Chiltepil has been served at Antojitos Carmen for a while..that said, great shout out…that salsa is amazing…and the resto for that matter. Just made Jonathan Golds 99 Essential list.
