Shopper & Diner Report

  • Sunset Beer in Echo Park has launched a series of Friday night events that highlight the beers from an individual brewery while the parking lot hosts a rotating selection of food trucks. On tap for tonight’s (Jan. 20) brewery night, Sunset Beer will host the first launch party for Golden Road Brewery‘s new line of IPA and Hefeweizen in cans. “We’ll [also] have five of their beers on tap, including Golden Road Hefeweizen, Point The Way IPA, Either Side of the Hill Strong Ale, Get up off of that Brown, and Schwartz Stout,” said Alex Macy with Sunset Beer.  The beer starts flowing at 7 p.m.
  • Eileen, a Silver Lake teen and juniors clothing and accessories shop, has moved to a new location, 3530 Sunset Blvd, next to Millie’s Cafe.
  • James Beard-nominated chef Benjamin Bailly is now in charge of the kitchen at Cliff’s Edge, the Silver Lake restaurant known for its large, tree-shaded patio. The L.A. Times says Bailly’s arrival signals an effort by the owners to make the restaurant a stand out for its food as well as its patio.   Said the Times: “A destination restaurant in Silver Lake would be a welcome — and long overdue — addition to the neighborhood.”
  • Back in December The Eastsider reported that the owners of Covell – a Los Feliz bar – had taken over the former Domenico’s Italian restaurant on Silver Lake Boulevard.  The partners at the time were not ready to talk about what they had in mind for their new Silver Lake space.  Now there is more to say, with Eater L.A. reporting that that new space will be known as L&E Oyster Bar, which could open as soon as next week.
