You may not be able to afford this Cypress Park house flip, but at least you can buy the furniture.  An open house invitation for the 1911 bungalow declared that many of the furnishings and accessories used to stage the Idell Street home were up for sale – including the carved wooden deer head ($500) above the fireplace mantle. The house was staged for sale by Sara Brady, who co-owns the Highland Park gallery and store called Platform.  “I worked really hard and really fast,” said Brady, who had three days to decorate the home with items – ranging from the deer head to lamps and vases – from her store and personal collection.

It’s really not all that unusual for home buyers and shoppers to inquire whether the temporary furniture and decor is up for sale, said Timothy Braseth of Art Craft Homes, who hired Brady to stage the Cypress Park bungalow The buyers of a Highland Park home he sold recently also snapped up the backyard picnic table. “I have sold houses completely furnished.”

Workers returned to cut down the remaining trees and clean up stumps and branches from the site of an Elysian Heights housing development after obtaining the go ahead from the city’s Department of Public Works.  A tree removal company had been ordered earlier this month to stop cutting down trees on a  three-acre parcel near Allesandro and El Moran Street where developer Planet Home Living   plans to  build 15 homes.   Last year, the developer was granted permission to chop down more than 40 native trees protected by city ordinance but only after it had purchased grading and building permits,  a condition neighbors had insisted on after watching other developers mow down trees for homes, condos and apartments that were never built.

After halting work on the site,  the Department of Public Works has decided to reinstate the developer’s tree-removal permit, said Julie Wong, spokeswoman for Councilman Eric Garcetti.

It has been 50 years since the Taix family, which operated a  French restaurant in downtown Los Angeles,  opened a new location in Echo Park.  Since then, the Sunset Boulevard restaurant has expanded, menu items have come and gone and the dimly-lighted bar has become the late-night domain of a music-loving crowd.  But all during those years and changes, three employees -  banquet room waiter Jose Fragoso, bartender Fernando Gomez and dining room waiter Bernard Inchauspe -  have remained familiar faces to generations of Taix customers. Next week, Taix French restaurant will honor their 50 years of service and tradition with a celebration – “not a retirement party.”

Why are these three men in their 70s still on their feet taking orders for roasted chicken and martinis when they could be relaxing at home? Click on the link below to find out.
