Hit-and-run driver leaves two injured in Silver Lake

Vehicle damaged by hit-and-run motorist.

Police were looking earlier this evening for a hit-and-run driver in Silver Lake who ran down a pedestrian and then hit a motorist a few blocks away.  The driver of a Ford Escort struck a man crossing Silver Lake Boulevard at Marathon Street at about 5:30 p.m. before speeding off and hitting a Toyota sedan at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Benton Way, where the driver of the Toyota sustained a minor injury.  The injured pedestrian, who landed on the Escort’s windshield before falling to the pavement, refused medical treatment, according to police at Silver Lake and Marathon.

A witness who was driving on Silver Lake Boulevard followed the Ford Escort after it struck the pedestrian and sped away in southbound lanes. The witness later saw the driver exit the vehicle following the second accident and began walking down Bellevue Avenue – “like nothing had happened” – before sprinting south on Rampart Boulevard.

  1. What is up with the hit and runs in this hood?? Someone hit my friend’s hand pretty hard (we jumped out of the way to avoid being hit head on) a few weeks ago and drove away. Maybe there needs to be some kind of a public outreach campaign that it’s a felony? Or maybe they’re drunk and will take the felony over the DUI.
