Bike group gearing up for a new East Hollywood home

The Bicycle Kitchen, a volunteer-operated bike repair and education group, is planning to leave its longtime home on Heliotrope Avenue and buy a former bakery building a few blocks away near Virgil and Fountain avenues on the border of East Hollywood and Silver Lake. The Bicycle Kitchen* has already received a $100,000 grant to help with the down payment and has raised another $40,000 from bake sales, workshops and music events.  But the group needs another $30,000 to “make our mortgage manageable enough for a nonprofit,” said Kristen Erickson. Time is running out, however. They need to raise about $21,000 of that final amount with eight days left in their campaign, which culminates with a square dance in Elysian Valley.  Click here for details.
