Belvedere Park Lake is surrounded by a several county government buildings – library, court house, sheriff station and health center – that make up what is known as the East Los Angeles Civic Center. During the summer months, the park and civic center hosts a two-month long series of concerts, outdoor movies, art shows and other events known as ArtsFest. This year’s ArtsFest began last weekend but the events stretch into September, with groups and performer such as Conjunto Jardin (Aug.4) and Louis Cruz Beltran (Sept. 1) scheduled to perform. There are also smaller shows featuring jam sessions and dance performances, including a Samba Dance Party (Aug. 3), a Bollywood inspired show (Aug. 3) and an Accordion Night (July 27). Tonight, Friday, July 6, ArtsFest hosts Hip-hop Dance with Culture Shock L.A.
It’s quite the scene as many of the performances take place on a stage that floats on the lake while, in the background, Metro Gold Line trains run back and forth on Third Street. Click here for full schedule of events.
The events are free and open to the public.
