Eastside Garden: A Box Car Willie grows in Silver Lake

Sandy Driscoll, she of Silver Lake Long Lemon fame, has another odd-shaped, home-grown edible to share. The photo above shows a Siamese Twin-like Box Car Willie heirloom tomato Driscoll grew in her garden. “I think this tomato is trying to rival the oddly shaped lemon,” said Driscoll. She planted the Box Car Willie on April 5 and picked the approximately four-inch wide fruit shown above on Aug. 12.
