You don’t have to be a mariachi to perform at Mariachi Plaza. On Friday afternoon, the stage next to the Mariachi Plaza Metro Gold Line station in Boyle Heights hosted a brief but hard-charging performance by rock star Jack White, the former lead vocalist of the White Stripes. While Mexican folk musicians playing Spanish-language songs dominate Mariachi Plaza, a wide variety of other bands, dancers and singers have descended on the plaza to take advantage of the stage and a circular kiosk built from Mexican stone. Even if White never returns to Mariachi Plaza, there’s always plenty to see and hear.
Nice.
