Silver Lake backdoor burglar makes off with laptop

NeighborhoodWatchLogo.JPGA Silver Lake burglary in the 800 block of N. Occidental Boulevard illustrates the reason why residents should probably lock and close the back as well as front door–even when they are at home. On Friday night, Aug. 10, a Silver Lake man working on his computer in a bedroom heard noises in the living room and then saw a shadow, according to information provided by Rampart Division burglary detective Mario Mota. Here, according to Mota, is what happened next:

The victim then heard noises in the livingroom and observed a shadow. The victim called out and the suspect fled the location. A neighbor observed a male White, NFD fleeing the location with an item up against his chest.

The suspect apparently entered the residence through an open and unlocked rear door and made off with a Sony Vaio computer.

  1. Oh well, at least it wasn’t a Mac.

    Why is “White” capitalized?

  2. Our Department manual calls for all ethnicities to be capitalized, including Black and White.

  3. A locked door would have stopped the thief. Even better, a locked door with a rod in the bottom runner track. But, the door could’ve been wide open if the owner had a really loud sizeable dog.
