Atwater? Glendale? Los Feliz? Souplantation seems a bit lost about new store location*

As Souplantation prepares to open its new Atwater Village restaurant and salad bar next week, the San Diego-based chain seemed undecided about where its newest outlet was located. On the company Facebook page, Souplantation asked:

Hey Los Angeles we need your help. We are opening our NEWEST location on Monday, September 17 and we need to know what area you want us to call it, is it Glendale? Los Feliz? Atwater Village? Los Angeles?

While most of the Souplantation Facebook fans recommended against Glendale, they seemed divided over Atwater or Los Feliz.

“Definitely Atwater Village,” said one of the more than 30 Facebook users who left a comment. No, it should be called the Los Feliz Souplanation said another, noting the new restaurant was “close to the Los Feliz exit off the freeway.” A third Facebook commenter offered a compromise: “Maybe Los Feliz/Atwater location.”

What did Souplanation decide? Looks like the firm settled on Atwater Village, judging by a press release received this past weekend by Atwater Village Chamber of Commerce Secretary Luis Lopez. However, the same press release touting the Atwater Village Souplantation said a grand opening celebration would include a fundraiser for an arts program … in Glendale.

* Correction: An earlier version of this post said the new Souplantation would open on Sept. 10. That’s wrong. The opening is scheduled for Sept. 17

  1. I got the worst food poisoning ever from there Pasadena location. Never will go back to a Souplantation again. ekkk.

  2. This stuff always irks me. I am pretty sure the Best Buy website calls it the “Glendale” location. (I think Souplantation got it right, tho)

    • That whole shopping complex is a great example for this argument: For years now, I’ve noticed that both the Best Buy and the Costco are referred to by all three monikers: “Atwater Village,” “Glendale,” and “Los Feliz.” And then there’s always the Glendale Kia Car Dealership right in the heart of… Glassel Park?!?

Besides… why is Souplanatation asking the general public what location/name to go by? That seems a bit curious to me. It seems like there should be a rule set in place–for practicality, if nothinig else–which leaves it up to the county or an applicable municipal entity to approve the location name with which you are associating your business’s or company’s site.

      • I doubt I was the only one that complained, but on the morning of the 6th I sent an email, posted on their FB wall and tweeted to them to change the name after seeing Glendale as the location name on the website. Atwater Village and the city of Glendale are so distinct, I found it off putting – just without thought of the area at all.

Later that day they put up the poll and made the name change for the better. I will give them props to responding and asking the public for their thoughts.

  3. I agree it should be listed as Atwater Village. That is where it is. Not in Glendale. Atwater Village is in Los Angeles which is a separate city from Glendale. If the restaurant is going to be gracious enough to do a fund raiser for a school, it should be for the school in its own area, not for a different city or school district.

  4. This article is POINTLESS without the address of the business.
So, I did your work for you and looked it up.
    2921 Los Feliz Blvd.
Atwater would be correct. It’s too far west of the Glendale/Atwater border to be Glendale, and the wrong side of the river/5 to be Los Feliz.

  5. I have a hard time eating at Souplantation because it makes me think of slavery.

  6. Do they get letters about a business tax? If so, they’re not in Glendale.

  7. I’ve never been and when I saw this coming out of work one day I was all excited. I cannot wait to try it out and see what the fuss is all about. I heard good stuff about Souplantation. I am also excited for having Boba Loca in the area as well.

I do not understand why its considered Glendale when it is not even in the city. I also think that Los Feliz & Atwater Village should be placed together well that part of Los Feliz. Anyways it should state as Atwater Village since all the stores and restaurants in that shopping center is considered Atwater Village.

  8. Doesn’t Atwater Village have difinitive boundries? This would take care of any naming issues.
