Eastside councilmen split over mayoral endorsement

Jose Huizar (left) and Ed Reyes.

Last week, Councilman Jose Huizar, whose 14th council district stretches from  Eagle Rock to El Sereno,  endorsed City Controller Wendy Greuel for  mayor over fellow councilman Eric Garcetti.  Today, 1st District Councilman Ed Reyes, who represents Cypress Park, Lincoln Heights and other neighborhoods, weighed in with his recommendation, backing Garcetti in next March’s mayoral election.

Garcetti, whose 13th District includes Echo Park and Silver Lake, announced Reyes’ endorsement in an email from his campaign. Said Reyes in a statement:

“For more than a decade, Councilmember Eric Garcetti has been a strong and independent voice for the people of Los Angeles.  He marshaled this city through our most challenging economic times while preserving jobs and saving taxpayers millions of dollars.  His experience and strong leadership are what Los Angeles needs.”

Meanwhile, County Supervisor Gloria Molina, whose district includes unincorporated East Los Angeles,  endorsed Greuel for mayor.

  1. Vote KEVIN JAMES! He’s the only one who can fix this mess. All the others, especially Garcetti are political insiders who are part of the problem,
