New Silver Lake pathway turns into a waterway

At first glance it looked as if the Ivanhoe Reservoir, the smaller of the two Silver Lake reservoirs, had sprung a big leak tonight as water gushed through and over a new retaining wall, flooding a new sidewalk and a stretch of Tesla Avenue.  Boris Mindzak, who lives near the reservoir, emailed in the photo above at about 7:30 p.m., saying crews were working on the leak.  “I live right at the corner of Silver Lake [Drive] and Tesla, so it was an interesting thing to come home to!”

The flooding was blamed on a release valve that was spilling over, said DWP spokeswoman Gale Harris.  After closing the valve, the water stopped flowing and the new pathway and street began drying out.
