Scheduled for two Saturdays, February 9 and 23, 2013, The River Runs Through It: Charles Lummis and the Culture of the Arroyo Seco registration is open.  This hands on interactive workshop includes the participation of Wilderness Way Magazine, the Arroyo Seco Foundation, the Audubon Center at Debs Park, the Tongva/Gabrielino and Fernandino Tribes, the Historical Society of Southern California, Heritage Square Museum, Highland Park Heritage Trust, and Friends of the Los Angeles River.


From their experiences, participating teachers will be able to create meaningful, curriculum-relevant project-based lessons for use with students.  Participants are encouraged to share student work at the 8th Annual Lummis Day: the Festival of Northeast Los Angeles, on Sunday, June 2, 2013 and/or send photos and videos produced from the lessons for display on the Lummis Day website.

The program is limited to 25 participants.  The registration fee of $85 covers materials, workshop speakers and tours, and lunch on February 9, and is due by February 5, 2013.   This is an LAUSD-approved point-credit class, NA-11-64.  Participants, and LA County School professionals, may wish to receive two CEU credits that are available through CSU San Bernardino for an additional $60 per credit with arrangements made by February 23. 2013.  The CSU fee is paid by check directly to the university.

  1. This workshop is the most exciting lesson planning experience imaginable.
    The work I have done with my students as a result of this workshop, creates meaningfully learning experiences for my students.

    You can’t go wrong taking this class.
