Frozen silly in Silver Lake

How cold was it today? Cold enough for Silver Lake blogger Will Campbell to record the scene from the frozen over “frog pond” on the north side of his house, where the thermometer registered 34 degrees early this morning.  “I know I should not be excited but this is Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California,” said Campbell as he cracked a thin sheet of ice in his hand.   Exciting for us but probably silly for people in places like Omaha, where today’s high was predicted to be 28 degrees.

  1. Love your video, Will! I’ll have to check my backyard birdbath tomorrow morning. From a former Ohioan and fellow Silver Laker, it is VERY cold here!

    • Thanks Sandy! I did feel more than silly getting all swept away by the solid surface, but I allowed myself the excitement since the only ice I’ve ever seen at our house are the cubes handmade by the invisible elves living inside my refrigerator.

  2. you play way too many video games…

As a former Silver Laker now transplanted to Pennsylvania, I can appreciate your excitement. My first winter here with snow and ice was equally exciting. As childish as you may have felt making your video, I say enjoy! If more folks found simple pleasures such as this, the world would be a less stressful place to live in.
