Mariachis performed in the parking lot as diners packed into the spare, white dining room of Guisados’ new Echo Park restaurant, which had a soft opening on Wednesday night. The Echo Park outlet marks the initial expansion of the Boyle Heights taqueria, which landed a coveted spot on Jonathan Gold’s list of 99 Essential Restaurants with tacos de guisado, handmade tortillas filled with flavorful helpings of braised meats and vegetables. The menu at Guisados Echo Park, which has taken over the former Sunset Boulevard home of La Esquinita, will mirror that of the Boyle Heights location but owner Armando De La Torre also plans to serve breakfast on the weekends and eventually serve beer and wine.
