Echo Park returns to normal, sort of

Police officer removes police tape as school kids walk up Echo Park Avenue near shooting scene.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary this afternoon at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue.  Cars and traffic were flowing through the intersection.  Metro passengers strained to look for sight of the next bus. An evangelist handed out religious pamphlets next to the Walgreens parking lot.  Only a few bright yellow wads of police tape rolling across the sidewalk and stuffed into trash cans provided evidence that a  few hours earlier the entire area had been sealed off by the LAPD after an exchange of gunfire between officers an alleged gunman.

An LAPD spokesman early this afternoon said the names of the officers and the suspect, who was in serious but stable condition after being shot by police, was not expected to be released any time soon.
