Police seeking Echo Park burglary suspect

The Rampart Division today released surveillance photos of a man suspected of breaking into or attempting to break into as many four homes this month in the southern portion of Echo Park and Angeleno Heights. The suspect, described as a male Latino, approximately 5’7″ tall; 16-22 years old; and 150 pounds, has entered the homes by removing window screens and, in one case, making his way through a possibly open front door while the victim slept, said Burglary Detective Mario Mota with the Rampart Division.

The photos above were taken of the suspect outside of a home in the 1500 block of Temple Street near Laveta Terrace on May 10. “The suspect removed the window screen and entered through an unlocked window,” Mota said. “Once inside, the suspect removed items and fled out the front door.”

Mota said the same man might be a suspect in several other crimes in the immediate area, including these below:

  • 05/17/13 between 0700 – 1900 hours: 300 blk of Douglas St, Suspect cut window screen and smashed window. Entered and removed property.
  • 05/17/13 at approx 0200 hours: 1200 Blk of Boston St, Suspect attempted to remove window screen and push open window.
  • 05/27/13 between 0000 – 0200 hours: 300 Blk of Douglas St, Suspect entered possibly via the unlocked front door as the victim slept. Suspect took purse.

Mota advises residents to keep windows and doors locked and to report suspicious activity.
