Forget breaking in through a window or unlocked front door. The burglars who made their way into the new Echo Park senior and retirement complex across from Echo Park Lake simply took the elevator. A snippet of surveillance video shows the pair, a man and woman, emerge from an elevator at the Parkview Living apartments at Park Avenue and Glendale Boulevard at about 4:30 a.m. on June 10 before they end up in the complex’s fitness center, where they make off with a flat screen TV.
Burglary Detective Mario Mota with the Rampart Division said it’s not known how the burglars were able to access the elevator or exit the building.
The burglary at Parkview Living is among the 16 Echo Park burglaries that appear to be the work of several criminals who are working independently but have apparently targeted the neighborhood, primarily the area south of the 101 Freeway.
In addition to keeping windows and doors locked when possible, Mota asks that residents call police to report suspicious activity or him directly with any information. Mota can be reached at (213) 484-3034 or (213) 484-3490.
