Police today asked for the public’s help in tracking down jewelry made by Joseph Gatto, the former teacher and artist who was found shot dead in his Silver Lake home last month. Gatto, the father of State Assemblyman Mike Gatto, began making and selling jewelry after he retired as a teacher. Now, police are searching for Gatto’s creations – which were made using precious metals, stones, bone, ivory and other materials – that may have been purchased or sold by pawn shops, according to an LAPD bulletin issued this afternoon.
“Mr. Gatto engraved many of his pieces with his initials and name “J A Gatto” along with a circular design,” said the bulletin.
Anyone with information is asked to call Robbery-Homicide Division Detectives Telis or Gable at (213) 486-6890 during business hours Monday through Friday or the LAPD Realtime Analysis & Critical Response Division at (213) 484-6700.
