Morning Report: Violent crime surges across Northeast Division; Glendale dump expansion on the agenda; Highland Park club focuses on the “shooting sports”

News & Notes:

  • The neighborhoods covered by the LAPD’s Northeast Division, which stretches from East Hollywood to Eagle Rock, have seen violent crime rise far above the citywide average this year, according to the L.A. Weekly. From Jan. 1 to July 19, reports of violent crime in the Northeast Division rose 9.4%  compared to a citywide increase of 2.8% during the first half of the year.
  • The Boulevard Sentinel spends some time with the members of the Highland Park Sportsman’s Club, which is focused on the “shooting sports.”

  1. Can we assume the spike in crime in the Northeast Division is related to GHOST Patrol cars patrolling the Northeast ?

  2. According to this LA Weekly article, Northeast and Rampart saw the least increase in violent crimes compared to all the other divisions in all of LA.
