VIS-Á-VIS: space-age theatre wraps up performance series at La Cage aux Folles installation

The La Cage aux Folles installation (pictured above) at Materials & Applications will be removed in a few days but you can still experience the tubular sculpture and also enjoy an outdoor film screening  at the Silver Lake art space.  Two films – Werner Herzog’s short Nobody Wants to Play With Me and Le Roi et L’oiseau, a classic French surrealist children’s cartoon – will be projected on to the giant cage as part of the Vis-a-Vis performance series. Dr. Lisa Hsuan will address  “Summertime Health Issues”  at a presentation at the Hermon Dog Park. Topics include allergies, fleas, fox-tails and ailments. Sunday, August 31 | Hermon | Details



Canoeists and  kayakers will  tackle a 3/4-mile stretch of the L.A. River through the Glendale Narrows in the first-ever L.A. River Boat Race. Contestants compete in various age- and skill-level categories for awards and other prizes.  Saturday, Aug 30 | Elysian Valley | Details 


The Edendale Ensemble’s Upclose Concert Series will present a free noontime presentation at the Edendale Branch Library featuring the premiere of Glow for 2 violins by Los Angeles composer Blair Whittington and Mozart’s Duo for violin/viola in G major and the Brahms Clarinet Quintet.
