Morning Report: Macy’s to pay $950k over Lincoln Heights employee decapitation; free Wi-Fi coming to Echo Park Lake

  • Macy’s has agreed to pay $950,000 over the 2009 death of an employee whose body was crushed and decapitated by machinery at the company’s Lincoln Heights distribution center, reports the L.A. County District Attorney.  Roy Polanco was killed after he fell into an unguarded part of a cardboard baling and compacting machine.
  • Echo Park Lake will be one of six park areas  that will receive free Wi-Fi service through a pilot program, reports Curbed LA.  The free city service, Oh Ranger Wi-Fi!,  is scheduled to begin Thursday.
