A 47-unit apartment complex is planned for a Temple Street empty lot

HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN –  The surge of new residential construction along Temple Street continues as a developer has pulled building permits to construct a 47-unit apartment building on what is now a block-long, vacant lot near Echo Park and Silver Lake.

Department of Building & Safety records show that building permits were issued to entities connected to 4 Site Development, a Silver Lake developer that recently completed a 49-unit apartment building on Temple near Union Avenue.  The new four-story project, valued at about $7 million, is located several blocks west on Temple between Coronado and Carondelet streets.  The property sold last November for $2.91 million.

Todd Wexman with 4Site Development said the project will consist of one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as 2,000-square-feet of ground floor retail space and a lobby.  The project is expected to be finished by August 2016, he said.

The project is one of several new residential developments that are planned or are under construction in the Temple Street corridor that cuts through the southern section of Echo Park and Historic Filipinotown:
