Pepples Donuts, a vegan and organic donuts shop from Northern California, is heading to a strip mall in Silver Lake by way of Donut Farm. Expect cake and raised donuts plus a vegan coffee bar that is similar to its Berkeley store. According to the company’s blog, Donut Farm: Silver Lake will be up and running sometime between mid to late December.

- Throughout the month of December, Refuge Salon in Highland Park is collecting new and used clothing and unopened personal care and hygiene products for its First Annual Clothing Drive in support of the Los Angeles Mission. Shampoo, conditioner, hair brushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, body wash, baby formula and diapers size three to six are some of the personal care and hygiene products that are needed. Drop off items from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday. Refuge Salon is located on the 5000 block of York Boulevard in Highland Park.
- LA Weekly got more details about Winsome, an upcoming New California cuisine restaurant slated to open in January on the ground floor of the iconic Elysian building between Chinatown and Echo Park. Currently under construction, the 75-seater restaurant pays homage to the local environs with a new version of “Sunshine in Echo Park,” a mural by artist Phil Dike and a peacock logo designed by local artist Claire Oswalt. Menu items include roasted root vegetables with al pastor spice and cilantro yogurt, braised beef cheeks with carrot pasta and watercress, matcha-flavored Mexican sweat breads and molasses-brown chocolate chip cookies.
- Two Eastside markets received a thumbs up on Racked LA’s Best Indie Markets, Street Fairs, and More to Shop for the Holidays List. First up is Iam8bit, a video game inspired art gallery in Echo Park that is showcasing its craftiness with its Unique, One-of-a-Kind Handmade Ornaments Show. Next up, Hunt and Gather’s Holiday Market Place at Align Gallery in Highland Park will hold a preview on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the actual market happening the next day on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
