SILVER LAKE — The bearded man in a black hoodie sat in a chair with a bleeding bullet wound in his thigh. The woman, who was shot in the lower leg, was lying on the parking lot asphalt surrounded by paramedics. Nearby in the same lot, customers lined up at a taco truck. These were some of the scenes captured by a freelance photojournalist early Sunday morning following a shooting that left two injured near the intersection of Glendale and Silver Lake boulevards.
Detective Larry Burcher with the LAPD Northeast Division said today that the suspects remain at large and detectives were preparing to interview the victims. “We are still trying to piece it together,” he said.
Early police reports said that the victims, both in their 20s, were on foot when they were fired upon at about 2:30 a.m. from a passing vehicle. Burcher said the shooters may be gang members but that has not been confirmed. The victims, however, are not believed to be in a gang, he said.
The shooting took place in an area where a cluster of restaurants and bars, including the Red Lion Tavern and Cha Cha Lounge, have created a lively nighttime scene on Glendale Boulevard. The OnSceneTV video shows the victims being attended to by paramedics in the Citibank parking lot at the corner. “You’re alright. You will live,” someone tells the male victim. “I’ll live,”he replies.
One of the ambulances carrying a victim is shown driving past a taco truck parked in the same lot.
The victims suffered injuries that were not life threatening, according to police. Burcher was not aware of their current condition.
