ECHO PARK — Is Alvarado Street Echo Park’s next housing development hot spot?  Possibly. The Building & Safety Department is reviewing permits to construct a 66-unit affordable housing complex in the 700 block of Alvarado Street across the road from a proposed 34-unit multifamily project.

The 66 units of housing would be constructed above a retail space but online city records did not provide any more details.

The project would rise on property now occupied by several commercial buildings. Echo Heights LLC purchased the property that stretches for nearly a block along Alvarado at Kent Street for $2.55 million in November 2014, according to Property Shark.

  1. How many additional traffic trips a day will be generated? what will be the environmental impact of the increased traffic? Where will the water supply come from for these units vs that used by the businesses doesn’t this increased demand others will have to cut back? Will parking requirements be relaxed or will common sense prevail and provide adequate parking for residents and guests?
